Seeded in China and nurtured on the Japanese soil, the SHO calligraphy is presented here for many to enjoy.
Letters are instrument, but they represent spirit. To capture its essence, I first soak all my mind and senses in the true meaning of the letters. Honed and focused, I then push aside all the non-essentials to the margin of the paper the letters are placed on. This is how I express the most important in the letters as something not visible.
As a calligrapher of modern-day Japan, I constantly ask myself of my role. May that be to write to the request of clients, to express my own creativity, or to help students learn how to express themselves through calligraphy, I will pursue the highest I can attain in each and every task.
